Calls to Reinstate Border and Rename Region to Caprivi Gain Momentum

Traditional leaders and residents from the Zambezi region are advocating for the reinstatement of the border line with the Kavango regions and renaming the region to Caprivi. They raised these concerns during regional public consultations by the fifth Boundaries Delimitation and Demarcation Commission. Their demands stem from a perceived lack of consultation when the region’s name was changed in 2013, emphasizing the importance of cultural identity. Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu also supports the residents’ call to relocate the border back to the Mukuvi area.
