King Kauluma (KK) Palace Football Club made history this weekend by winning their stream and making a comeback to the top division of Namibian football 20 years after being demoted to the Northwest Stream First Division Football League.
The Ondangwa team, who competed in the NPL in 2004-05, has shown a lot of tenacity on their way to returning to the top division after winning the NWSFD league with a record of 13 wins, 5 draws, and 4 losses. They will now play in the Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League the following season.
After a 1-1 draw with Khuse United on Saturday, KK Palace defeated Onambula United 1-0 on Sunday to win the championship. The Southern Stream First Division winners, Namibian Correctional Service, have joined them. They defeated Eleven Arrows 1-0 on Saturday and then played to a scoreless draw with Blue Boys, their closest rivals for the title.
Along with setting a remarkable record of 18 wins out of 22 games, NCS will join KK Palace in the Premier League the next season, replacing the relegated Okakarara Young Warriors, Life Fighters, and Orlando Pirates. NCS only lost three of their 22 games. An additional position needs to be filled, and it will depend on who wins the Northeast Stream First Division between Cuca Tops and Oshikango Chiefs. There are still five games in that league, so it is far from over.
Ongwediva City, Oshikuku Young Stars, and Touch and Go were also relegated to their respective second divisions in Oshana, Omusati, and Otjozondjupa regions following the completion of the NWSD league.
Additionally, DTS and Davos were demoted to the Erongo and Khomas second divisions, respectively, following the Southern stream conclusion.
The centrepiece of the weekend was Black Africa, who managed to avoid relegation by scoring 15 goals in two games. This came after Black Africa defeated Dates Eleven 6-2 on Saturday and then outscored Mariental Sports Club 9 goals to 7 in a thrilling match that left football enthusiasts wondering on the massive score lines.
Try Again demolished DTS 5-0 on Saturday, and Oranjemund defeated Davos 1-0. Blue Boys also had an enormous triumph on Saturday, winning 7-2 over Latinos.
Following a 2-1 victory over Touch and Go on Saturday, Outjo Football Academy also managed to avoid relegation. Golden Bees lost their title hopes in a 3-0 loss to Eleven Warriors, despite their 2-0 triumph over Touch and Go.
