The national World No Tobacco Day event will be in Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, on May 31, 2024. This day, initiated by the World Health Organization in 1987, aims to raise awareness of tobacco’s health risks and advocate for anti-smoking policies. This year’s theme, ‘Protecting children from tobacco industry interference,’ emphasizes shielding youth from tobacco industry influence. Tsumeb was chosen for its multicultural population and high youth smoking rates. John Lumbu, the region’s chief nurse, highlights the event’s focus on engaging youth and learners to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle.
