During a Menstrual Hygiene Day event at Iipundi Secondary School, Oshikoto Regional Council chairperson Samuel Shivute urged boys to support and understand girls’ menstrual cycles to reduce absenteeism caused by embarrassment. He emphasized the need for schools to educate all children to combat stigma and called for free sanitary pads in schools. Director of Education, Aletta Eises highlighted the challenges faced by the region’s over 40 thousand schoolgirls, some of whom use improvised materials like old clothing or grass. Dr. Ndeyapo Nekongo donated 6,000 sanitary pads, stressing community responsibility in supporting girls.
