The Olympic Flame has arrived in France, after coming into the port of Marseille from Greece. It means the Paris 2024 Olympic torch relay will now begin, lasting 80 days on its journey to Paris. Ross Cullen reports.

Namibia sees increase in violence against LGBTQAI+ community

Two additional suspects, 23-year-old Tashiya Nandomba and 21-year-old Joslin Booysen, have appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court in connection with the brutal murder of Christoph Fredericks, a transgender woman who was stabbed 42 times. This incident highlights the increase in violence against LGBTQAI+ community members in Namibia. Linda Baumann, an activist for women's and LGBTQI rights, for comment.

Zimbabwe urges swift adoption of new but ‘scarce’ currency

Zimbabwe's Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has ordered all government agencies to accept payments in the newly introduced gold-backed currency amid reports of acute shortage. Ncube in a statement said the Zimbabwe Gold, introduced last month, was now the official unit of exchange for transactions in the country. He the BBC that the government would soon introduce regulations to ensure businesses stick to the official rate.

As Namibia prepares for the Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for 27 November 2024, the Media Ombudsman and other stakeholders hosted a media and elections monitoring tool validation workshop in Windhoek on Tuesday. During elections, media monitoring provides benchmarks to judge the fairness of the election process and evaluates compliance with international standards and local regulations on election coverage.
