Slow Start but Steady Increase: Oshana Region Registers close to 3 thousand Voters on First Day of General Registration

today5 June, 2024

Background

The Regional Electoral Officer for Oshana, Amon-Oiva Haimbangu, reported that 2,824 voters were registered in the region on the initial day of the general voter registration. Despite facing technical challenges and a slow initial turnout, there’s been a positive shift with long queues forming on subsequent days. One of the main hurdles encountered is people’s unfamiliarity with registration points, leading to confusion regarding where to register within their constituencies. The Electoral Commission of Namibia has deployed mobile teams across 229 registration points in the region to facilitate the process.
