South Africa’s newly elected parliament will convene for the first time on Friday, authorities said, as political parties scramble to form a coalition after the election produced no outright winner.

“The first sitting of the National Assembly shall be on Friday, 14 June 2024,” Chief Justice Raymond Zondo wrote in an order released on Monday to the media by the justice ministry. Electing a speaker and South Africa’s president are among the parliament’s first tasks.
