Parts of Sudan are experiencing famine, according to U.S. diplomat Tom Perriello. Nearly 14 months into the conflict between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, the extent of the extreme hunger remains unclear. “I think we know we are in famine,” Perriello, the U.S. special envoy to Sudan, told Reuters. “The question is how much famine, how much of the country, and for how long.”
