As the world gears up to commemorate the 20th World Blood Donor Day, the Namibia Blood Transfusion Service (NAMBTS) extends its heartfelt gratitude to the generous souls who have selflessly donated blood over the span of six decades. Under the theme “Thank You Donors,” this year’s celebration, organized by the World Health Organization, acknowledges the invaluable contribution of blood donors globally, highlighting their role in saving countless lives and propelling medical advancements in the field.

What stands out most is the unwavering commitment of Namibians from all corners of the country who have bestowed the gift of life upon others without expecting anything in return. Despite constituting merely 1% of the Namibian population, these donors have made a monumental impact. However, there’s still much to be done in encouraging more individuals to join this noble cause.

Currently, NAMBTS operates 242 clinics nationwide alongside 7 fixed sites, making the process of blood donation more accessible. The introduction of mobile clinics has been particularly well-received, contributing significantly to the 16% of blood collected. Remarkably, 71% of regular donors played a pivotal role in the 29,947 Namibians who donated blood in 2023 alone.

To every hero who has stepped forward to donate blood, whether they be learners, mothers, grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or aunties, NAMBTS extends warm wishes and profound gratitude on this special occasion. Their collective efforts have not only reached a milestone but have also reaffirmed the power of humanity in making a difference in the lives of others.

On this World Blood Donor Day, let us pause to honor these unsung heroes whose altruism and compassion continue to inspire us all. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your invaluable contribution to saving lives and shaping a healthier, brighter future for our nation.
