Indian man extradited to US over alleged Sikh separatist assassination attempt

An Indian man accused of attempting to kill a Sikh separatist on American soil has been extradited to the United States. Nikhil Gupta is scheduled to appear Monday in a New York courthouse on federal murder-for-hire charges. Prosecutors say he was behind a failed assassination attempt of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a prominent critic of the Indian government. The defendant’s lawyers say he is being “unfairly prosecuted”.
