Brazilian Tourist Arrested for Culpable Homicide in Fatal Otavi Collision

Luiz Charles Araujo De Sa, a Brazilian tourist, was arrested in Otjiwarongo for culpable homicide following a head-on collision near Otavi that resulted in nine deaths. The accident happened when Araujo De Sa’s Toyota Fortuner tried to overtake another vehicle and crashed into a seven-seater. Eight occupants of the seven-seater and a woman from the Fortuner, also Brazilian, died. Araujo De Sa appeared in court, chose to hire a private lawyer, and his case was postponed to June 27,for further investigation. He remains in custody but may apply for bail.
