Reuters reports that Gabon confirmed an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza at a poultry market in Libreville, as reported by the World Organisation for Animal Health. This marks the first occurrence of H5N1 in Gabon since 2022. The H5N1 strain, known for its severe impact on poultry and occasional transmission to mammals, has caused substantial poultry losses worldwide and has recently affected cows in the United States.
