On Wednesday, 38 employees of the Namibia Industrial Development Agency at the Naute Dam irrigation scheme staged a peaceful protest demanding salary increments. The protest, organized by the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union , followed a deadlock in wage negotiations in May 2023, with NIDA offering no increase. The workers, demanding a 12% salary increase, a minimum wage of N$2,500 for seasonal workers, and allowances for transport and housing, decided to strike after the issue remained unresolved by the labour commission. They vowed to continue protesting until their demands are met. NIDA’s farm manager, Simon Akwenye, stated that negotiations are ongoing in Windhoek.
