The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has released the Annual Tourist Statistics Report for 2023, highlighting a significant rise in tourist arrivals in Namibia. Notably, the African market emerged as the leading contributor, accounting for 71.8% of total arrivals.

During the report’s launch, Environment Minister Pohamba Shifeta acknowledged ongoing challenges faced by the tourism industry, including global economic conditions, climate change, and security concerns. He emphasized the need to address issues such as violent attacks against tourists, which could slow growth in the sector.

Minister Shifeta expressed optimism about the positive trend in tourism that began in 2022 and stressed the importance of diversifying Namibia’s tourist offerings. He pointed out that expanding into areas like sports tourism, conferencing, and entertainment could attract a broader range of visitors and ensure continued growth in the industry.

Ministry Spokesperson Romeo Muyunda shared details on the importance of this diversification, stressing that it will help the country attract new markets and improve the overall tourism experience.
