today17 July, 2024

Background

President Nangolo Mbumba emphasized the benefits of Namibia being a secular state and cautioned religious leaders against exploiting their followers. During a visit from various religious groups, Mbumba stressed that religious practices should benefit all Namibians, not be used for personal gain or reputation. He highlighted that a secular state allows for an open exchange of ideas and recalled that pre-independence leaders decided the government should respect both church and traditional leaders, integrating them into society.
