today19 July, 2024

Background

President, Nangolo Mbumba has urged for international aid to address severe child malnutrition in Namibia, particularly in drought-affected areas like Omaheke. With 45 child deaths and 132 malnutrition cases reported last year, Mbumba highlighted the urgent need for food assistance following the declaration of a state of emergency due to El Niño. UN Resident Coordinator, Hopolang Phororo acknowledged the difficulties in mobilizing resources given Namibia’s upper middle-income status but affirmed the UN’s commitment to working with the Namibian government to tackle the crisis.
