Political analyst Rakkel Andreas recently shared her thoughts on President Joe Biden’s decision to step down, highlighting global concerns about his age and fitness for office. “After the world saw the presidential debate between Trump and Biden, general sentiments have been that Biden is not appearing fit to stand for office,” Andreas noted, pointing to his advanced age as a key issue. She suggested that Biden might be better off retiring than leading the world’s most powerful nation.

Andreas acknowledged Biden’s impressive political track record and current responsibilities but raised questions about his future capabilities. She noted that the Republican camp has effectively portrayed him as unfit for another term, arguing that this sentiment is shared not just in the U.S. but globally.

While age and competency have become focal points, Andreas pointed out that many political leaders worldwide are older yet remain effective. She cited Angela Merkel of Germany, who led for 16 years competently despite not being in her youthful years. Andreas argued that Biden’s perceived issues are not solely due to age but also his recent public appearances where he has stumbled over words and forgotten key names.

She emphasized that age should not be a blanket disqualifier for leadership. “It’s a case-by-case situation,” Andreas asserted, explaining that competent leaders can still be found among older candidates. She stressed that Namibia, which also has older presidential candidates, should focus on their presentation and competency rather than their age.

As Biden steps down, the world watches closely to see who will step forward. Andreas mentioned that whether Kamala Harris is the best candidate remains to be seen, but the global impact of American politics ensures keen international interest. She concluded by noting that Namibia is also gearing up for its own November elections, highlighting the interconnectedness of political developments worldwide.
