Keetmanshoop, Mayor McDonald Hanse has called on pensioners in the town to register for a special social electricity tariff. This initiative allows pensioners to purchase the first 50 electricity units at N$1.71, significantly lower than the standard N$2.18 rate. After the initial 50 units, pensioners will pay N$2.65 per unit, compared to the regular N$2.70 rate. The municipality aims to register at least 2,000 pensioners, with 150 already enrolled. The tariff, capped at 40 Amps for the 2024/2025 financial year, is designed to improve affordability and quality of life for pensioners. Mayor Hanse also encouraged community support in identifying pensioners who may need assistance with the registration process.
