Putin and Assad discuss Middle East tensions

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad paid a surprise visit to Moscow – for talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The two leaders discussed recent developments in the Middle East, which Putin described as an “escalation”. The meeting is seen as an attempt at defusing tensions between Turkey and Syria.
