The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced on Monday that a total of 1.3 million eligible Namibians had registered as voters within the country and at all diplomatic missions abroad.

The commission in a media statement said about 1 315 124 eligible voters have registered and represent those registered between 03 June and 27 July 2024.

It said voters registered between 22 and 27 July 2024 represent an average of 26 869 registered voters per day, adding that this shows a slight decline compared to the turnout of the previous week of 15-20 July.

The statement shows that at least six out of the 14 regions had achieved an 80 per cent and above voters’ turnout by 27 July 2024.

The regions that have achieved 80 per cent registration and above are Omusati with a 90 per cent turnout, Oshana with 89 per cent, Ohangwena with 88 per cent, Kunene with 87 per cent eligible voters, Erongo with 83 per cent, and Oshikoto with 81 per cent.

Figures for registration in Otjozondjupa stood at 79 per cent, ||Kharas and Kavango West at 78 per cent, while Kavango East and Zambezi registered 77 per cent of eligible voters, Khomas 76 per cent, Omaheke 74 per cent, and the Hardap Region at 72 per cent.

“Namibians are further reminded that there is no window opportunity for extending the period of registration of voters. The General Registration of Voters continues across the country and at all Namibian Diplomatic Missions abroad until 01 August 2024, from 08h00 to 19h00,” said the statement.

Namibians go to the polls on 27 November to cast their votes in the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
