Former U.S. President Donald Trump has called the Olympic opening ceremony a ‘disgrace’. It comes amid criticism from some Christian groups over a part of the show that featured what some saw as a parody of the Last Supper. Ross Cullen reports.

Le Monde, a French daily afternoon newspaper, further reports that creators came under fire for what some said was a show gone too far. “I’m very open-minded but I thought what they did was a disgrace,” Trump told Fox News.

His remarks came after Catholic groups and French bishops condemned a scene in the ceremony featuring dancers, drag queens, and a DJ in poses reminiscent of the Last Supper. Organizers, however, have clarified that the scene was not intended to represent the religious setting. The sequence received global backlash from Christian groups and far-right politicians on social media.

In response to host Laura Ingraham’s question about his plans if re-elected as president by the time of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Trump stated, “We won’t be having a ‘Last Supper’ portrayed in the way it was depicted last night.”

Thomas Jolly, the director of the opening ceremony, later responded to criticism by saying he intended for the production to “reconcile” and “repair.”
