Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, former Minister of Education, Arts and Culture and the first female Governor of the Hardap Region, passed away on 14 July 2024. Her final journey back to Mariental, her hometown, was marked by a profound outpouring of grief and respect. On 26 July, the town honored her legacy by renaming a street in her name. The ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Ambassador Margaret Mensah-Williams, celebrated Hanse-Himarwa’s significant contributions to education and public service. Her funeral service at Danie Joubert Combined School and subsequent burial at the Mariental Town Cemetery were poignant reminders of her impact on the community.
