Man Found Dead in Police Cell After Arrest for Stock Thef

Background

A 32-year-old Namibian man, arrested for stock theft in Otavi, was found dead in his police holding cell on Saturday morning, allegedly having committed suicide. According to Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha, the man was detained on Friday afternoon after meat from a stolen cow was found in his possession. He was discovered hanging in his cell around 4:30 AM the next day. No suicide note was found, and foul play is not suspected. The deceased’s next of kin have yet to be informed, and investigations are ongoing.
