Periodic Magistrate’s Court to Open in Omuthiya by October

today6 August, 2024

Background

A periodic magistrate’s court will open in Omuthiya, the Oshikoto regional capital, by the end of October this year. The initiative aims to reduce the case load on the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court, where over 67% of cases come from Omuthiya. Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court chief legal clerk, Christian Shafudah, mentioned that 45 to 60 inmates from Omuthiya appear in Ondangwa daily. The new court will address cases locally, cutting travel and witness compensation costs. Initially, judicial staff will commute from Ondangwa to Omuthiya. There is a designated plot in Omuthiya awaiting budget allocation for further development.
