Background

The Namibia Media Trust is holding the #YouthQuakeNam24 conference today for International Youth Day, focusing on the 2024 General Elections and youth involvement. The theme, “Next Generation Democracy: Inspiring Youth to Lead and Innovate,” includes about 60 young Namibians, policymakers, and civil society representatives who are holding talks on how the youth can shape Namibia’s future.  Here is the Director of the Namibia Media Trust, Zoé Titus.

According to the United Nations, the youth can be a positive force for development when provided with the knowledge and opportunities they need to thrive. Today, there are 1.2 billion young people aged 15 to 24 years, accounting for 16 percent of the global population. By 2030—the target date for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that makeup Agenda 2023 —the number of youth is projected to have grown by 7 percent, to nearly 1.3 billion.
