Shaun Gariseb of the Katutura Residents Committee has voiced strong criticism against /Khomas Regional Governor Laura McLeod-Katjirua, highlighting the pressing issues facing the residents of Windhoek and the broader /Khomas region. Speaking on the current situation, Gariseb pointed out the severe impact of municipal mismanagement, including escalating debt and inadequate access to essential services like water and electricity.

Gariseb emphasized that despite the governor’s role in management council meetings, there seems to be little progress in addressing the persistent problems faced by residents. He expressed concern that the governor has not sufficiently tackled critical issues such as the lack of title deeds for over 20,000 residents in Groot-Aub and rural Windhoek areas.

The ongoing struggle with a defective billing system, which affects numerous households in Windhoek, was also highlighted. Gariseb urged that these “bread and butter” issues be addressed more effectively, suggesting that the governor could have taken a more proactive stance by engaging with the relevant line ministers to seek solutions.

The critique underscores a growing frustration among the region’s residents, who have been calling for more decisive action to address their urgent needs.
