Namibia Urges UN Security Council Reform for Greater Representation

The International Relations and Cooperation minister, Peya Mushelenga, reiterated the nation’s long-standing call for UN Security Council reform, emphasizing the need for a more representative and inclusive council. Speaking at a high-level debate in New York, Mushelenga highlighted Namibia’s historical struggle for justice and the inadequacies of the current council structure. He urged that the composition of the council be adjusted to reflect present-day realities, building on the legacy of leaders like Theo-Ben Gurirab. The debate also focused on addressing historical injustices and enhancing Africa’s representation in the council.
