Sudan’s sovereign council announced on Thursday that the Adre border crossing with Chad will be opened for three months, a decision eagerly awaited by aid agencies according to reports by Reuters. This move is intended to facilitate the delivery of aid to famine-threatened areas in Darfur, where over 6 million people face food insecurity. The region, mostly under the control of the Rapid Support Forces amid a 16-month conflict with the army, is experiencing severe famine, particularly in North Darfur’s Zamzam camp.
