Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in her capacity as the SWAPO Party’s presidential candidate, recently met with the Forum of German-speaking Namibians. The forum’s chairperson, Harald Hecht, expressed gratitude for the continued dialogue and said the forum remains committed to contributing to the country’s well-being. Hecht said that the forum, driven by a sense of civil responsibility and loyalty to Namibia, seeks to participate in the nation’s public life.
Hecht also outlined the forum’s mission and mentioned the importance of addressing the country’s most pressing challenges, including structural inequality, poverty, unemployment, and food insecurity. He also praised Namibia’s peaceful transition of power from former President Hage Geingob to President Nangolo Mbumba earlier this year.
Hecht said that there is a need for the government to maximize new economic opportunities, particularly in the oil, gas, and green hydrogen sectors. He urged the government to improve the enabling environment to attract more investment, especially in light of Namibia’s scenic contrasts and global rankings. In closing, Hecht encouraged Nandi-Ndaitwah to “pick the right squad” should she become Namibia’s first female president, stressing that her experience and stance on corruption could be instrumental in leading the country’s economic transformation.
