Biden’s national security adviser visits China

today27 August, 2024

Background

Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser at the White House, is in Beijing to meet top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi. It’s the first trip to China by a US national security adviser since 2016, as part of efforts to stabilise relations between the two superpowers. The meetings, scheduled to run from Tuesday to Thursday in Beijing, are to build on the talks that began at last year’s summit in California between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Laura Westbrook reports for us from Hong Kong.
