Russian forces launched drones targeting the Ukrainian capital in the early hours of Monday. Ukraine says it shot down about two dozen attack drones over the capital. Megumi Lim reports from Kyiv.
According to the Associated Press, over 140 Ukrainian drones struck several Russian regions overnight, including Moscow and nearby areas, resulting in at least one death and eight injuries, officials reported Tuesday. This is one of the largest drone assaults on Russian territory in the 2.5-year conflict.
A woman was killed in Ramenskoye, a town near Moscow, where drones targeted two high-rise residential buildings and ignited fires, according to Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov. Falling drone debris led to the evacuation of five residential buildings.
The attack also led to the closure of three airports near Moscow—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—causing 48 flights to be rerouted, as reported by Russia’s civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsia.
