Kenya has pledged to send an additional 600 police officers to Haiti, bringing its total contingent to 1,000. The move is part of efforts to assist the country in fighting gangs controlling much of Port-au-Prince and nearby areas. BBC reports that Kenya’s President William Ruto, during a visit to Haiti, expressed support for transforming the Kenya-led security mission into a full United Nations peacekeeping operation. Several other nations have collectively pledged at least 1,900 additional troops.
