The Magistrates and Judges Association of Namibia has voiced serious concerns regarding the safety and security of judicial officers after an alarming arson attack on the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court. This incident, which occurred on 1 October 2024, involved an unknown individual setting fire to the public prosecutor’s office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the fire resulted in significant damage to the office, highlighting the vulnerability of judicial facilities.
In response to this event, the Secretary of the Association, Helvi Shikalepo said there is a need for urgent action to strengthen the safety of magistrates and judges.

Shikalepo further explained the importance of implementing better security measures to protect judicial officers from potential threats. “We definitely want to strategise and enhance security for our magistrates and judges,” she added, reflecting the association’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the judiciary in Namibia.
