In South Africa, Solidarity’s research institute has proposed a new healthcare system to ease pressure on the struggling public sector and improve access to private care. This comes as debates continue over the National Health Insurance Act signed by president Cyril Ramaphosa in May. Solidarity’s proposal promises lower monthly costs and better medical care. Solidarity’s Theuns du Buisson warns that the NHI could bankrupt the state due to poor planning:
