Electoral Commission Takes Action on Political Party Deregistrations Amid Court Rulings

today11 October, 2024

Background

On June 17, the Electoral Commission of Namibia announced the deregistration of the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters and the Christian Democratic Voice Party  for failing to submit their audited Annual Financial Statements and publish abridged forms as required. However, a High Court ruling on September 5 reinstated NEFF, while the CDV faced a similar fate. Following a special meeting on October 7, the Commission initiated a self-review application in the High Court regarding CDV’s deregistration. On October 10, Justice Ueitele granted the orders sought in this application.
