The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) held a public meeting on Wednesday to formally receive nominations for candidates and political parties contesting the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections. The final list of candidates will be made public on Thursday, 17 October 2024, according to ECN Commissioner Dr. Emmerencia Leonard.
In a developing situation, the ECN has granted independent candidates an additional 24 hours to submit the required number of supporting signatures. This extension follows the rejection of nominations for three independent candidates—Jeremia Kaambo, Ally Angula, and Elsie Chen—during the public session.
The ECN’s review of submissions revealed deficiencies in the signatures provided by these candidates. The extension gives them until Thursday to rectify the situation and meet the nomination requirements.
The 2024 elections are set to be a pivotal moment for Namibia, and all eyes are now on the final list of candidates, which is expected to shape the political landscape in the coming months.
