The Health ministry is optimistic about a new HIV-AIDS preventative injection, lenacapavir, currently undergoing trials in several African countries. In its second phase, the injection has shown promising results for both individuals living with HIV-AIDS and those uninfected. According to Linda-Gail Bekker, a professor at the University of Cape Town, trials in South Africa and Uganda indicate that a twice-yearly lenacapavir injection provides complete protection against HIV for young women. The trial compares the six-month injection with two daily pills, all classified as pre-exposure prophylaxis medications.
