S.A’s Basic Education minister, Siviwe Gwarube says the department is ready to administer the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations. Matric exams begin today with 882-thousand-336 candidates from across South Africa. A further 16-thousand-400 students from private schools and institutions will take the Independent Examination Board exams. Gwarube described this year’s final exams as representing the cumulative efforts of the education system, schools, communities, and the department:
Audio PlayerIn addition, Gwarube also says to ensure the integrity of the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations, the department has deployed 70 part-time monitors to oversee high-risk centres. Additionally, at least 70-percent of examination centres will be monitored per session. Examination board Umalusi has approved 162 quality-assured papers for this year’s NSC exams. Gwarube says these efforts will help to prevent irregularities such as group copying or leakage of exam papers:
