On Monday, police in Mozambique fired teargas and live bullets at protesters in the capital, Maputo, who had gathered to demonstrate at the site where two opposition party figures were shot dead following a disputed election. CNBCAfrica reports that police officers used handguns while attempting to disperse the crowd. According to Adriano Nuvunga, director of Mozambique’s Centre for Democracy and Human Rights, two journalists and a security guard were injured by gunfire, although their wounds were not life-threatening.
