Mozambique is bracing for a potential escalation of unrest following the election of President Daniel Chapo in October. According to Deutsche Welle, today, opposition-led demonstrations in the capital, Maputo, are expected to culminate in a large rally, raising concerns about increased violence and riots. An analyst noted that due to the long-standing repressive nature of the country’s regime, violence has increasingly become the only way to engage effectively with those in power.
