In South AFrica, President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit to probe the South African Special Risks Insurance Association over claims and payouts relating to 2021’s civil unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. At the time the claims amounted to just over 28.5-billion-rand. The SIU’s spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago, says the investigation will seek to establish whether the claims made were in line with applicable legislation or practices of the National Treasury:
