Heavy gunfire broke out in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, on Thursday evening after security forces attempted to arrest the former head of the National Security Service. According to Reuters,tThe shooting, which began around 7 p.m. local time, lasted for over an hour before subsiding. A U.N. safety alert instructed staff to shelter in place as the situation unfolded.
