Polling officials in Rundu have issued an ultimatum to the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), demanding a pay increase within 24 hours or risking a boycott of the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The dispute arose over a daily training allowance of N$150, which officials claimed was insufficient. Their protests escalated into disrupted training sessions, creating chaos ahead of the crucial electoral process.
In response to the unrest, the ECN has resolved to raise the training rate by N$100, bringing it to N$250 per day. Spokesperson De Wet Siluka confirmed the adjustment, stressing the Commission’s commitment to resolving the matter promptly and ensuring smooth election preparations.
