Federal criminal cases against Donald Trump dropped

US President-elect Donald Trump looks set to escape trial for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election result after investigators filed a motion to drop the case. Special counsel Jack Smith on Monday moved to dismiss the charges against the former President due to a long-standing Justice Department policy that bars the prosecution of a sitting President.
