The South African Weather Service has issued a heatwave warning, with high temperatures expected in parts of the North West and Free State until Wednesday, and in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga until Friday. In light of this, we spoke with Odillo Kgobetsi from the Namibia Meteorological Service about whether this heatwave will affect Namibia.
Kgobetsi explained that a high-pressure system over the sub-region is causing subsiding air, leading to hot conditions across Namibia. He indicated that temperatures will be extremely high, especially in the northern and eastern regions of the country.

In some areas of the north, temperatures could soar up to 40 degrees Celsius, while the central parts could see temperatures reach 37 degrees Celsius. These extreme heat conditions are expected to continue through Wednesday and Thursday, with the highest temperatures likely to affect Namibia’s interior.
