Several opposition parties in have voiced their support for the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) as it moves to contest the conduct of the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections. The IPC has formally notified the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) of its intention to file an urgent application with the Supreme Court.

Public Policy Analyst Dr. Marius Kudumo weighed in on the issue, questioning the ECN’s preparedness and transparency. “The Electoral Commission’s reputation is damaged. To some extent, the country’s reputation is also being affected,” he said, highlighting opposition frustrations.

Dr. Kudumo expressed concerns about the ECN’s handling of the election, citing a lack of contingency planning for such a large-scale operation. He noted frustration among opposition parties and the broader implications for the country’s image.

The IPC’s legal challenge marks a significant development as questions about the credibility of the electoral process continue to surface.
