Nedbank supports the recent launch of a new agriculturally themed board game, developed in Namibia.
Designed to educate and entertain, the game titled Farmwise, fosters understanding of the challenges and rewards of farming while promoting collaboration between farmers, labourers and their families.
According to Nedbank, the idea for the game was born out of frustration suffered by game developer Piet Gouws.
“After he had found himself stranded with a flat tyre and no car jack, he used the time waiting for help to brainstorm how to educate farm labourers in a way that was engaging and impactful,” Nedbank narrated in a recent statement.
Initially created for farmers and their employees, the game has evolved into a versatile tool for a broader audience. It benefits resettled and emerging farmers, urban families looking to understand farming, and even tourists seeking a meaningful Namibian souvenir.
Moreover, the bank said by addressing financial, human, natural and physical resources, the game uses informal learning to build relationships, understanding and responsibility among players.
The first 100 limited-edition games are available directly from the developer, with distribution plans underway with Sam’s Hobbies and Toys in Windhoek.
According to Nedbank, Gouws’s vision is to expand the reach of the game into regional and international markets.
‘This is more than a game,’ he says. ‘It’s a locally produced product that celebrates Namibia while contributing to the future of its farming community.’
A bursary fund that helps children of members of Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) achieve their dreams of a tertiary education, will receive 40% of the profits from the game.
