Windhoek, Namibia – Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) councillor Ndeshihafela Larandja has been elected as the new mayor of the City of Windhoek, with Clemencia Hanases from the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) unanimously nominated as Deputy Mayor. This appointment marks the end of a leadership vacuum in the city, which has been without a mayor since December last year.
In her acceptance speech, Mayor Larandja outlined two focus areas for his term in office. The first is economic development, which he emphasized as crucial for improving the living standards of Windhoek’s residents. She noted, “Economic development is the only way to ensure everyone can live a good life, especially in the city, and to tackle the high cost of living.”

Another area of focus will be addressing water provision, particularly in the city’s informal settlements. Mayor Larandja acknowledged the challenges many residents face in accessing clean water, despite partial provisions being made. “We still have communities unable to access water, and this is something we must prioritize,” she said.
The newly appointed leadership team is poised to tackle these critical issues as they work to improve the quality of life for Windhoek’s residents.
