Finance minister says greed drove Namdia robbers
today
24 January, 2025
By: Selma Ikela
Finance Minister Ipumbu Shiimi said those who murdered Namdia’s senior protection officer, Francis ‘Gosh’ Eiseb, (57), during an armed robbery were driven by greed.
Shiimi said the robbers did not commit the crime because they were hungry or needed food to eat.
Eiseb was discovered dead in the company’s storeroom on Saturday with a bullet wound to his head. His hands and feet were tied, and his head was placed in a plastic bag.
Speaking at Eiseb’s memorial service on Thursday evening at PPC Church in Hochland Park, the finance minister said he reflected on the incident, questioning how people could commit an evil act and what drove them to do so.
“But greed was driving them, and as Namibians, we need to reflect, especially those in leadership… we need to reflect We need to go back to the drawing board because we, as Namibians, are starting to live a flashy life, and we want to have things we cannot afford, that will lead to the destruction of our nation.
“This is a lesson we all need to learn. We need to think about how we are going to renew the society to create a better society in which everybody can live in peacefully,” remarked Eiseb.
Shiimi also shared that Eiseb joined Namdia in February 2018 and described him as someone who had a passion for his work.
“He stated when Eiseb went to the office early on Saturday evening, he was in a hurry to get there. It’s because he valued his work and this is a lesson all Namibians must take away with,” remarked Shiimi.
