today30 January, 2025

Background

The Kombat copper mine will cease operations at 16:00 on Friday, with a planned suspension lasting a minimum of nine months. This decision comes after recent pump failures resulted in underground flooding. Although Trigon Metals, the Canadian owners of the mine, have yet to make an official statement, Vice President of Corporate Development, Tom Panoulias, indicated that a press release will be issued shortly. Over 100 miners have already been sent home, and the processing plant will close after processing the remaining ore in preparation for refurbishment.
